Abstract

Christianity is a huge religious practice that dates back to early human times. There are many different branches and common beliefs that shape how the religion is today, providing community for millions around the world. This research addresses the gap of children growing up in the Christian church compared to those who don’t, and how it specifically affects their mentalities. The chosen method is phenomenology, a study of how people's lived experiences impact them. Interviews conducted with participant groups led to findings that religious children are more likely to experience guilt within their practice and set their future success apart from themselves. Implications give communities the opportunity to know the effect they have on children's goal setting abilities and possibly help them learn how to set goals. This could potentially increase success rates of achieving goals within the community.
